Shooting Season is Nearly Here

The shooting season is approaching quickly us, although it appears for the moment that most of us all thinking about holidays; the weather, cricket etc. The World of Guns;  Gundogs, tweed and slow gin still seems a long way off yet.

One of the key aspects of the shooting season is the social side. It also brings together businessmen and people from other Worlds for networking and connecting purposes. The social side is key to the shooting season. One of the best things about it is that it brings together people from all walks of life, from the upper echelons of society to those others with perhaps a little more modest means.

Even those at the very bottom of the social scale get to take part in the shooting season. What other activity other than the shooting season brings together such a very varied group with fun activities food and drink the social barriers are completely smashed.

80How do you pick your guest list for your shooting season events? Do you start with business; your friends, your neighbours or other shoot owners hoping for an invite back? The shooting season does have an aspect of social climbing to it. From the Hedge Fund Manager; Politician or Businessman, it is a great way to impress and widen your net, while at the same time receiving invites to shoot at your ‘new friends Estates’. The shooting season invitation is the pinnacle of social climbing in bringing together friends and acquaintances.

How does one deal with the etiquette of such occasions in this century. As values change and shift there is still a certain way of doing things particularly as far as shooting is concerned. It is the upper echelon of social life, the very top of the social ladder.

                    

Shooting is a thoroughly expensive and a unique event to hold and therefore it is important to be extremely polite to your host if you have been invited. It is considered extremely rude not to accept or perhaps even worse having accepted to then find that business or other commitments prevent you from attending such an event. This must be dealt with, extremely delicately.

As such they  appear to be very indifferent or ignorant of the social level of shooting in Europe

Shooting_PartyTo many who travel to our shores however this etiquette is very unfamiliar. They are perhaps more use to throwing the pump action into the back of the truck and going ‘hunting’. As such they  appear to be very indifferent or ignorant of the social level of shooting in Europe in general. We must account for this then when dealing with overseas visitors then.

At ‘more humble’ shoots it always pays to be considerate to others in your group.

When shooting in syndicates, none of this appears to be the case. Because Guns are paying and rotating through various tasks of the shoot most syndicates get together and ‘work’ to make the shoot a success everyone must ‘muck in’ even if the eloquent shooting lunch is taking place with cheese sandwiches or over a pint of beer at the local pub.

Behind all of it however there usually is still some element of social maneuvering and even business positioning. It is therefore most important during the shooting season do you do not socially ‘trip up’. Most would suggest that your dress; manners and thoughts for others always come before yourself. Even at these ‘more humble’ shoots it always pays to be considerate to others in your group.
